My name is Megan aka Redventurer: The Wandering Ginger. I am a single mom, self-taught SQL Developer, animal & nature lover, amateur photographer, writer and adventure seeker. Growing up, I was the curious kid, the risk taker and the rebel. We were pretty poor and family life was not the greatest, so I learned very early on to escape through books, imagination and exploration. A proud little tom girl, I would spend hours in the woods climbing hills, traipsing through creeks and brought home just about every furry, feathered or even scaled critter I found. I spent hours a day lost in fantasy books (Piers Anthony's Xanth series was my favorite). I was a bit of an outcast as well. I stood out like a sore thumb with bright red hair, freckles and an awkward & goofy personality. (Spoiler alert, I still have all those traits.)

My younger years were marked with quite a few trials, wrong turns and devastating losses. I have attended the funerals of far too many of my loved ones. My own big sister, Andrea, passed away from cancer at the age of 34. After her death, I lived for a long time in fear of dying young. When I turned 39, I realized that I had already lived 5 years more than she was granted and I had nothing really to show for it. One of Andrea's favorite songs when she was sick was 'Live Like You Were Dying' by Tim McGraw. I sat there on my birthday, thinking about that song and about her. She spent her last 3 years trying to pack in as many memories as she could with her two beautiful little girls and the rest of us. That night, I made a promise to her and to myself that moving forward, I would take advantage of each new day granted to me. I would live like I was dying. I have had many adventures in the 7 years that have passed, and I hope to have many more ahead for as long as I am blessed to be on this side of the dirt.

I started this blog as both a creative outlet for myself and also as a way to share my love of travel and adventure, mixing in some humor and perhaps even a little inspiration as well. If you are reading this, welcome and I am glad you are here. I hope you find something that makes you smile, laugh or maybe even sparks your own inner adventurer. For those of my readers who are just starting out in life, seize the moments as much as you can. Take the chances, take the trips. For those who like me are entering or already in the second half of this journey, always remember that age is a gift denied to many. May you wake up grateful each and every day and go out and do something adventurous!
